Stuck overnight at Newark πŸ™„

Delays, disruptions, and disappointments. OH MY!

On Sunday, after a delayed seven-hour flight back to the US from the UK, my husband and I missed our connecting flight and were stranded overnight. At Newark.

Dun dun DUUUUUUN!!!!!!!

...Ok, it wasn't that bad. (Have you seen the new terminal at Newark? 🀩)

But after a long day of travel and ten days away from my little girls, I was aching to be home and to wash every item of clothing on my body and in my suitcase. Delay after delay in Edinburgh meant we missed our connecting flight home to Raleigh. Before the plane even took off from Scotland, I had already been rebooked on a flight... for the following day. πŸ™„

This unexpected disruption was annoying, disappointing, time consuming, stressful, and exhausting. Was United going to compensate us in any way for this overnight fiasco? Where were we going to sleep?!?

But there was an upside too. Just two weeks ago, I was on the phone, CRYING, to one of my bff's about how impossible it's been to get together and how lonely I've been feeling living far away from my closest friends.

I guess the universe works in mysterious ways because all it took (lol) was a delayed international flight and I was just a cab ride away from cuddling her cute baby and crashing on an air mattress in her living room just two weeks after that tearful conversation.

Sometimes.... SOMETIMES! An unexpected delay means something else unexpected, and potentially lovely, pops up in our life.

And sometimes, delays are just disappointing.

It can feel crappy to not be where you want to be in your career at this point. Or for an injury or illness to derail your audition season. As artists, there's so much that's outside of our control. Because of that, it often feels like we're living through a constant state of disruption.

If we're lucky–or resourceful or creative!–something great might fill those delayed/disrupted holes in our schedules.

Taking the reigns of the variables in your life that ARE under your control can provide structure and a much-needed framework for your journey as an artist. Things like making time to:

  • practice singing
  • read a new play
  • listen to a new cast recording
  • take a voice lesson or a dance class
  • attend a masterclass
  • update your website
  • complete an online course lesson
  • send some networking emails

And the list goes on and on!

What would make you feel creative AND in control of one aspect of your performance career?

One easy way to do just that? Get a BVC Masterclass subscription for $54/month and get into three live masterclasses, every month. Train your voice, expand your artistry, and network with industry professionals for the BEST price you can get (we know, we looked around!).

Looking for courses you can take at your own pace? We've got that too. Just scroll on down to see all the ways you can get in on the action here at BVC.

As for me, I'll be seeing some of you tonight at 8pm ET in my Mix Masterclass!

Much love and happy singing!

It's amazing how we can weave a singing-related lesson into stories about overflowing toilets, postpartum photoshoots, or maid-of-honor wedding speeches. Now you're intrigued, right?!Β
